Abstract
1,231,523. Pipe joints. J. GACHOT. 30 Oct., 1969 [6 Nov., 1968], No. 53277/69. Heading F2G. A union for joining a stationary pipe 7 and a rotatable pipe 11 comprises a ball 19 attached to the rotatable pipe and provided with a diametal bore 21 connecting with said pipe 11, the ball being mounted between two annular seals 22, the seals 22 being clamped between two flanges 3, 4, one of which 3 is connected to the stationary pipe 7 while the other flange 4 is apertured at 12 to admit the rotatable pipe 11, the ball 19 being disposed within a cylindrical member 2 removably mounted between the said flanges 3, 4. As shown the cylindrical member 2 has seals 16 in annular grooves 14, and over tightening of the seals is prevented by spaces 18 in conjunction with nuts and bolts 6, 5. The pipe 11 may be sealingly attached to the ball 19 by force fitting, welding, or removable screw threaded means. A conical portion 13 on flange 4 limits the angular displacement of pipe 11 with respect to the axis of aperture 12. The seals may be of polytetrafluoroethylene.
