Abstract

1299354 Pipe couplings DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 4 March 1970 [5 March 1969] 11805/69 Heading F2G A pipe coupling comprises flanges 6 clamped together by bolts 8 to compress rubber &c. seals 5 axially so that they expand radially and clamp deformable collets 3 on to the ends of pipes 1. The collets 3 are of steel, are formed with axial slits (4), Fig. 2 (not shown), to facilitate their deformation, are bonded within the rubber &c. seals 5 and have internal ribs to engage serrations 2 around the ends of the pipes 1. The rubber seals 5 &c. may be free fitted or may be bonded within the flanges 6. The pipes 1 are of fibreglass resin, lined with rubber. Abutting lips 7 of the seals 5 protect the fibreglass resin from fluid in the pipes 1. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the angle of taper of the flanges 6 and seals 5 is decreased, to increase the clamping force of the seals on the pipe ends, and the ribs and serrations 2 within the collets 3 and around the ends of the pipes 1, are replaced by screw threads (11, 12). In this form, the collets 3 have a single slit each.
