Abstract
1,230,565. Casting process; foundry plant. VACUUM ENG. (SCOTLAND) Ltd. 28 June, 1968 [1 July, 1967], No. 30447/67. Heading B3F. [Also in Division C7] A chamber 1 for the teeming of ingots in moulds 10 has a sliding door 5 to the outside and is separated by a wall 3 and sliding door 4 from a chamber 2 containing a furnace 13; the chambers 1, 2 can be evacuated independently of one another and a crab 7, with a ladlesupporting and hoisting mechanism 8, can be moved from one chamber to the other along an upper runway 6 when the door 4 is open. Moulds 10 are introduced through the doorway 5 to ba supported on a carriage 11 and the chamber 1 is evacuated to the same degree as the furnace chamber 2 before the door 4 is opened and the ladle 9 is conveyed into the furnace chamber for filling. The furnace is recharged while the ladle 9 is in the chamber 1 for filling the moulds. The furnace 13 is movable on a runway 15 out of the chamber 2 for servicing. The crab runway 6 extends out of the chamber 1 so that the ladle may be exposed for attention.
