Apparatus for bottom pouring slag into a chill mould 30 comprises an inlet 27, a support 31 for the mould, means defining a duct 29 between the inlet and the support, and a movable member 28 which may be moved so as to open or close the duct. After the required amount of molten slag has been introduced into the mould, a drive 35 is actuated to move a carriage 34 and the member 28 to the left to shut off the duct 29 from the mould. After completion of the casting operation, the member 28 may be lowered by means 33 to permit removal of solidified slag from the duet 29. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,172,041.
