1,230,353. Cable terminations. KABELUND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE A.G. 18 Feb., 1969 [24 Feb., 1968], No. 8766/69. Addition to 1,180,713. Heading H2E. A method of terminating a high-tension cable or wire, sheathed with a thermoplastic material such as polyethylene or an elastomer such as butyl rubber, employs a sealing bell adapted to be shrunk on the cable or wire insulation, and made up of a plurality of tubes of cross-linked insulating material disposed concentrically and graduated in length to determine the external contour of the sealing bell. The bore of the bell is widened, as by the insertion of a mandrel during heating; subsequent cooling fixes the bell in its expanded state, in which it is stored. When required, the bell is shrunk on to the cable or wire by being raised to its recovery temperature. Stress relieving conductive inserts may be disposed between the tubes of the bell.
