In a safety razor of the kind having a handle arranged at right angles to the plane of a double-edged blade, the usual toothed guard b, Figs. 2 and 4, is formed in two parts that are adapted to be adjusted relatively to one another by cam-slots h engaging studs c fixed to the parts of the guard b. The cam-slots h are formed in a pair of toothed wheels g adapted to be turned by a pinion i secured to the handle of the razor, the arrangement being such that the parts of the guard b remain parallel to one another throughout their movement. The handle of the razor carries a screwed sleeve adapted to lock the parts after adjustment, and a pointer may be provided to indicate the relative positions of the two parts of the guard b. In a modification, the two parts of the guard are adjusted by sliding plates q, Fig. 5, which are moved by a pinion i' secured to the razor handle and are provided with slots r engaging studs c' on the parts of the guard.
