Abstract

1,228,369. Valves. W. GRIFFITHS. 26 April, 1968 [31 Aug., 1967], No. 39967/67. Heading F2V. A valve comprises a loose resilient ring 4, e.g. of natural or synthetic rubber, or plastics, adapted to be seated on to the sides of a groove 3 by a body member 8, to close off an inlet duct or ducts 14 connecting with the bottom of the groove, the member 8 being mounted slidably on a cover member 5. The cover 5 is mounted on a screwed spindle 10 so that when it is rotated by a knob 6, it moves the member 8 towards the ring 4. The ring 4 is moved off its seat by fluid-pressure at the inlet 14. The flow is throttled before it reaches an outlet 15 between a face 17 and a face 16 on the cover. In Fig. 4, not shown, a check valve (26) closes the upstream side of a duct (28), and has a stem (43) contacting a loose ring (23) so that as the ring is moved off its seat, the check valve is closed to allow servicing. The sides of the groove may be chamfered. The resilient ring can have a square cross-section. The outlet 15 can be disposed on the outer side of the groove 3. The knob 6 may be rotatable with respect to the cover.
