Abstract

1,228,343. Internal shoe drum brakes. SOC. ANON. D.B.A. 17 Jan., 1969 [26 Jan., 1968], No. 2745/69. Heading F2E. A shoe retracting system for an internal shoe drum brake comprises a lever 16 pivoted at one end on a brake shoe web and formed at its other end with a hook portion and a cam 24 pivoted on the brake shoe web, the cam having an eccentric member 22 which engages a slot or elongated opening 20 in the lever for moving it between two distinct angular positions corresponding to the stressed and unstressed condition of a return spring 14 engaging the hooked end of the lever. The cam can be turned with a screwdriver from outside the brake. In the stressed position member 22 is located so that spring tension prevents it moving from the opening. The brake assembly may include a double back plate, and each shoe may include one or more levers and cams.
