Abstract

122,781. South Metropolitan Gas Co., and Somerville, J. M. June 29, 1918. Hydrogen.-Carbon monoxide is removed from gases by passing the gases over a mixture of caustic alkali and ferric oxide heated to a temperature such as 400‹ C., which is above that at which alkali formate is formed. Strong caustic alkali solution is mixed with dry precipitated ferric oxide or a substance which contains or yields ferric oxide. The mixture is heated to 130-150‹ C. to drive off water and further heated to about 320-350‹ C. The hard mass is broken up.
