Abstract
1,227,450. Fuel filter cartridge. BENDIX CORP. 20 June, 1968 [3 July, 1967], No. 29531/68. Heading B1D. [Also in Division F2] A fuel-filtering cartridge comprising a stack of annular washers in a perforate casing 26, adapted for inward flow, has an outlet member 32 at its lower end, presenting a seat 34, and a spherical valve member 36 retained at its upper end by a lip or arms 48, the member 36 being normally protected against the differential pressure developed across the stack by a water-soluble diaphragm 52 overlying the perforate end wall of member 44. If the liquid fuel being filtered contains water, diaphragm 52 dissolves and either then or later, when the differential pressure is sufficient, member 36 is forced away from lip 48 and seats on member 32 to prevent further flow through the cartridge. Diaphragm 52 is of cellulose polymer and may be clamped against member 44 by spring 46, as shown, or glued thereto or retained by a ring received therein. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates several cartridges in one housing.
