Abstract
1,225,576. Making coils; winding helices. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 28 May, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 26855/69. Headings B3A and B3E. A method of manufacturing preformed coils for armature windings of electrical machines in which the coil wire is wound around a mandrel 10 to permanently deform the wire at the six corners of the mandrel so that on rotation of the mandrel 10, wire is drawn from a supply carrier (not shown). A wire-piece 48 is tensioned by the breaking action of a guide roller 50 and runs along the face 46 of side cheek 12 on to the winding surface 13 of the mandrel 10. During the course of the winding operation, the coil wire abutting against winding surface 13 is continuously displaced in the axial direction by cam-operated push-rod 14 so that wire can run on to the mandrel 10 in adjacent turns without obstruction. A shaft 20 is rotated together with shaft 11 at the same speed and in the same direction. A winding thumb 24 is displaced in the axial direction under the wire-piece 48 during the second revolution by a roller 32 running across a portion of cam track 34, so that, after a further revolution of about 90 degrees, the wire portion 80 engaged by the winding thumb and the two obliquely rising portions 81 and 82 form a trough extending beyond the contour of the other turns of the coil wire. The trough remains closed until the winding thumb 24 is returned by a spring 37 into the position shown in Fig. 2 and the engaged wire portion 80 is sheared between cutting edge 25 and wheel 26 and the two portions 81 and 82 of the coil are separated. The winding thumb 24 is again guided axially and forwardly during the further winding operation, so that it is again advanced under the coil wire, and the cycle repeated. Gear-wheel 35 and cam 75 rotate at half the speed of the mandrel 10 so that at each second revolution of the mandrel 10, a device 60 for baring the wire is temporarily actuated by the cam 75 by way of switch 73 and valve 72. Thus the feed strand of the coil wire has uniformly recurring bared portions whose spacing is equal to the sum of the lengths of a normal turn and the length of a turn guided over the winding thumb 24. Thus coils comprising two turns are produced in a continuous sequence.
