Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the production of a whisker at a terminal after cutting a lead wire, by a method wherein stress is highest at the portion of a lead wire which contacts with a terminal so that the lead wire is cut at the edge of the terminal. CONSTITUTION:The end of a wire material 15 is held by means of chuck 24 and 25. A guide nozzle 16 is moved toward a winding shaft 9 and then alternately moved so as to perform a circular motion about a terminal 8 in order to wind the wire material around the terminal 8. Then, the winding shaft 9 is rotated in the direction (c direction) of expanding the lead wire 28 whose one end is held by the chuck 24 and 25 and whose other end is wound on the terminal 8. Stress is generated when the lead wire 28 is being expanded, and the stress is highest at the portion of the lead wire 28 which contacts with the terminal 8. As the winding shaft 9 rotates, the stress on the lead wire 28 successively increases until it is cut at the portion contacting with the terminal 8. Accordingly, the cut lead wire has a whisker of length zero.
