Abstract
122,452. Wall, A. W. Jan. 19, 1918. Magnetos, driving, for the ignition of internalcombustion engines. A toothed wheel i on the magneto shaft j meshes with a wheel h secured to the engine crank-pin, the magneto armature being driven at twice the speed of the crankshaft. The crank-arm is composed of disks a, each furnished with a pressed eccentric boss b, these disks being secured to other disks c also formed with pressed central bosses d, as described in Specification 122,451, [Class 122 (i), Engine and like cylinders &c.]. The connecting-rod e is composed of two stampings, as described in Specification 122,450, [Class 122 (i), Engine and like cylinders &c.], having pressed bosses f, g. The boss g is stepped, and the pinion h is secured around its reduced part. The bearing sleeve k for the shaft j is secured within the boss d of a disk c, and a similar boss l of a disk m constituting the distributor. The ends of the bosses d, l are formed with dogs which interengage. A bearing n is situated between the crank-shaft and the crank-casing o, the latter carrying a. plate p having four stationary distributor contacts, which successively make contact with a single contact on the plate m. This single contact also successively engages two contacts belonging to the magneto armature. In a modification, the pinion h may be rotatably mounted upon the crank-pin end of the connecting-rod e and be in mesh with a stationary internally-toothed ring, tho pinion i then rotating at four times the velocity of the crank-shaft. The wheels h, i may be made slightly eccentric.
