Abstract

1,223,410. Nitriding steel. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan.3, 1969 [Feb. 1, 1968], No.578/69. Heading C7U. Carbon steel has diffused into its surface one of aluminium, chromium, titanium, zirconium, hafnium or vanadium by an electro-chemical process using a fused salt bath and an anode of the metal to be diffused, and is then gas nitrided at 500‹ to 600‹ C. for a sufficient time to produce a dispersion of nitride in the surface layer.
