Abstract

A pipe joint capable of accommodating radial and axial displacements between two pipes to be joined and carrying a pressure fluid comprises a floating sleeve 1 axially movable in the first pipe 2. The sleeve has an annular plate 6 at one end of it which is thrust on a flange 7 formed at the rear end of the second pipe and is equilibrated thereon by means of a differential pressure. A pressure-fluid film separates plate 6 and the flange 7. As shown, the plate 6 is provided with circumferentially spaced pockets 9 for admitting pressure fluid from the pipe through openings 11 and calibrated passages 10. The pockets 9 may assume the form of a circular groove. The sleeve may have expansion grooves 3 and pockets 4; pressure fluid from the pipe admitted into the latter through perforations 5 maintains the sleeve central in the pipe 2. In a modification (not shown), the plate 6 is oblique in relation to the axis of the sleeve.
