Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A cylindrical closure 26 is sealingly engaged in a tubular mouth in a pressure vessel 10 the end wall 15 of the mouth being turned over inwardly around but not in conformity with, a curved or sharp outer periphery 35 of the closure so that a curved inner surface 37 of the end wall 15 engages the shoulder 35 with a wedging action. As shown, an oleo-pneumatic accumulator comprises a rigid metal container 10 having an upper gas supply union 16 for supplying pressure gas to an elastic bladder 22 which is clamped in position by a union collar 21. The container space 24 is filled with fluid under pressure through a passage 29 in a union 25 which has a strainer 30, a valve, not shown, controlling the supply of pressure fluid into the union and then closing. The cylindrical head 26 has a rounded lower shoulder 35 the radius R<SP>1</SP> of which is less than that of the curvature radius R of the curved portion 37 of the inturned wall 15 which latter radius is greater than the thickness E of the container wall 14. The head 26 has a seat 34 and is urged downwardly by the gas pressure 22 and by a spring washer 39 constrained between the opening 12 and a circlip 40. In a modification the strainer 30 is replaced by a one-way poppet valve and, the rim 15 is turned through a 90 degree angle, the washer 39 in this case, being flat and non-resilient. In a modification, Fig.4 (not shown), the vessel (110) may be given an internal lining, e.g. of epoxy resin, or it may be made of plastics material, the rim (114) being turned through an angle of more than 90 degrees. The lower shoulder of the piston head (113) forms a sharp acute angle, e.g. of 70 degrees, and tight sealing between the head (113) and the vessel (110) is enclosed by a packing (126). In a further modification, Fig.5 (not shown), the gaseous fluid union is carried by the strainer (116) and a conduit (118), connected between the side wall (120) of the liquid union and the strainer (116) and having a one-way valve (121), is provided for admitting liquid into the vessel (110). The turned over rim (114) is of tapered section.
