Abstract
1,220,064. Drying gases. UNITED CO., Ltd. and I. L. S. GOLDING. 14 Oct., 1968 [14 July, 1967], No. 32481/67. Heading B1L. Wet gas, particularly air, to be dried is passed by line 12 to cylinder 10 which is packed with desiccant, e.g. silica gel or molecular sieve. As shown, the stream which has been dried leaves by lines 13, 15 and valve 17. The position of valve 17 controls electric switch 24, so that while gas is flowing through lines 13, 15 radiant heater 20 is energised. A small sidestream passes through the lower part of cylinder 10 containing exhausted desiccant from a previous cycle and desorbs the moisture thus regenerating the charge; this permanent sidestream passes out from the system through bleed means (not shown) one of which is located at each end of the cylinder 10. When regeneration is complete and desiccant in the upper part of cylinder 10 is exhausted, valve 17 is operated to switch the cycles, energising heater 19 and deenergising heater 20.
