Abstract

1,225,821. Drying gases. E. P. S. (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. 15 April, 1969 [26 Jan., 1968], No. 4265/68. Heading B1L. Gas to be dried is drawn into dehumidifier 1 through hose 28 and inlets 15, 11 by fan 10, and then passes over desiccating core 8 before leaving through outlets 12, 18 and hose 29. Core 8 comprises a matrix of electrically conductive heating wire covered with a fire resistant insulating material, e.g. asbestos yarn, which is impregnated with a desiccant such as lithium chloride, silica gel, aluminium oxide or aluminium silicate. When the desiccant is exhausted, or after a predetermined time, inlet 15 and outlet 18 are closed by valves 17, 20 actuated by solenoid (27) (see Fig. 2, not shown). The same means opens inlet 16 and outlet 19 and also passes electric current through the wire of core 8, so that the effluent stream regenerates the exhausted desiccant. Thereafter, solenoid (27) is de-energised and the dehumidifier resumes its dehydrating function. The device is particularly suitable for drying the contents of closed containers connected thereto by hoses 28, 29.
