Abstract

1,219,925. Aerating water. E. P. AGHNIDES. 14 Feb., 1968 [15 Feb., 1967], No. 7294/ 68. Heading B1C. An aerator for attachment to a water tap has upstream of the jet-forming means constituted by the perforated diaphragms 19, 20 and flow control member 23 which blocks some of the apertures 22 in the diaphragm 20. By reversing the member 23 the apertures 22 will be unblocked to adapt the aerator for use in a situation demanding reduced back pressure (e.g. in conjunction with a gas appliance ignited by rate of water flow) at the expense of aerating efficiency. The member 23 may be removable. Instead of central apertures, peripheral apertures may be blocked, Fig. 1A, in which case the lower diaphragm 19a has a domed portion 19b to produce divergent jets. Embodiments of the flow control member for use with diaphragms having partial blind apertures with side entries for the water flow are described with reference to Figs. 2-4, not shown.
