1452974 Spray-producers AMERICAN STANDARD INC 17 Jan 1974 [14 May 1973] 02337/74 Heading B2F A device for attaching to a spout or tap 18 for producing a single substantially laminar splashless non-aerated water stream, comprises a generally cylindrical body 1 secured by threads 19 to the spout or tap, a disc 2 having rectangular perforations 5, 6, 7 therein being clamped between body 1 and a ring 17 of the spout or tap and sealed against water loss through the threads 19 by an annular crush ring 16, curved screens 3 and 4 being placed downstream of the disc 2 and retained by a ledge 14 and a tapered wall 12 respectively of body 1, the disc 2 having overhanging projections 8, 9, 10 to produce diverging water jets emerging from the downstream side of the disc and also to produce a low-pressure region 11 between disc 2 and the screens 3, 4. Disc 2 includes openings 20 near its periphery to receive any water passing the crush ring 16 and to divert such water through further openings 21 to the low-pressure region 11 and thence to the jets leaving disc 2. Screen 3 may be of 24 x 24 mesh and screen 4 of 40 x 40 mesh. The projections 8, 9, 10 may be replaced by diverging means moulded or formed on the downstream side of the disc 2. In a second embodiment Figure 7 (not shown) three contiguous curved screens (31), (32) and (33) are employed instead of the screens 3, 4, the three screens being suspended from a common ledge (34) of a body (30). A discharge port 13 in Figure 2 and (37) in Figure 7, has a diameter of, e.g. 0.650 inches. In all embodiments, the upstream screen(s) have a coarser mesh than the downstream screen(s).
