984,478. Bar screens. HARTLEYS (STOKEON-TRENT) Ltd. Sept. 17, 1963 [Sept. 20, 1962], No. 35842/62. Heading B1D. Residue from a fine screen is discharged at 33, Fig. 3, into a trough 12 whence it is swilled by water supplied at 34 on to a bar screen 20 consisting of bars 21 pivoted at their ends so that they can be swivelled into, and then fixed in, any one of a number of positions, including the vertical. Mechanism for such swivelling and fixing is shown in Fig. 2. The variation in bar spacing thus provided enables the size of solids passing through the screen to be controlled, and in turn the size of solids fed to a disintegrator from the screenings well 10 below the screen 20.
