Abstract

1,218,304. A yarn breakage detector. TEIJIN Ltd. 2 April, 1969, No. 17396/69. Heading B5B. A broken yarn detector is shown schematically in Fig. 1 in which yarn 2 from spinneret 1 passes under tension through a broken yarncollector 6, over an oiling roller 3 and thence via roller 4 to a tensioning roller 5. Breakage of the yarn can occur either before or after roller 4. If the breakage occurs before roller 4, the tension is relaxed and yarn begins to build up on the collecting device 6. As a result of the build-up a light beam from the source 8 is broken, the output signal from the photodetector 9 is reduced, the output current of the amplifier 10 is reduced and the electromagnet 11 is de-energized. In this manner switch 12 is thrown. This sequence of events can be used to activate buzzer 13, light warning lamps or stop the spinning process. If the breakage occurs after the roller 4, the yarn wraps itself around roller 4 and begins to build up. When the build-up of yarn reaches peg (16) on the flange (15) which is rigidly attached to the fixed shaft (14) (Fig. 3, not shown), the roller 4 is halted as a result of the friction between the yarn and the peg (16). From this instant the apparatus functions as explained above.
