Abstract

1,218,189. Flare stack burners. A. E. PROCTOR. 8 Oct., 1968 [9 Oct., 1967], No. 46103/67. Heading F4T. The flare tip proper 30 of a flare stack tip assembly is welded on a tube 13, 14, having a flange 11 for securing it to a fixed flare stack, and has below a frusto-conical portion 1a two rings of devices 40, 41, using the Coanda effect for inducing ambient air into the main stream of gas passing through the tip 30, and having pressurized steam or compressed air as the air inducing medium, fed from a pipe 10, a manifold 7 and conduits 42. The devices 40, 41 are held in members 43, 44 pivotable relative to the tip, the longitudinal axes of devices 40 and 41 preferably making angles of 45 and 30 degrees, respectively, to the longitudinal axis of the tip, and a gas diverter 45 is located on support rods 46 coaxially in the tip, so that the gas and ambient air streams meet substantially at right angles before passing through an upper tubular tip portion 1 and emerging from a flue nozzle 50. Three pilot burners 2 are arranged about the nozzle 50.
