Abstract

1422968 Oxy-acetylene torches N T E DILLON 21 Dec 1972 59219/72 Heading F4T An attachement 10 for an oxy-acetylene torch comprises a straight tubular member 19, an adapter 11 secured to one end of member 19 and a coaxial nozzle 22 at the other end thereof, the adaptor 11 being shaped to engage a torch over its outlet 12, the internal length of member 19 and nozzle 22 being at least eight times the internal diameter of member 19, said diameter being at least three times the internal diameter of the outlet 24 of nozzle 22, and the internal walls of the nozzle 22 being free from abrupt changes in internal diameter so that flow therethrough can be substantially non-turbulent. Adaptor 11 and member 19 are adjustably screwed into a hollow body 14 so that selectively a gas-tight joint can be obtained between adjacent ends of member 19 and adaptor 11 or so that such ends can be separated to allow a flow of atmospheric air to be induced into member 19 via apertures 36 in body 14. The addition of the attachment 10, as compared to the torch by itself, is stated to give a higher temperature core flame over a smaller area surrounded by a flame having a minimum of gas turbulence. Adjustment to allow ingress of air via apertures 36 allows operation with reduced or zero oxygen supply to the torch in some cases, low temperature brazing then being possible if nozzle 22 is removed.
