Abstract
1,099,959. Burners. J. M. BEER. Oct. 27, 1966 [Oct. 28, 1965], No. 45652/65. Heading F4. A burner for pulverized, liquid or gaseous fuel comprises concentric nozzles 1A-1F formed by rings 2A-2F each of Venturishaped axial section and mounted on pipes 3A-3F such that the inner end of the divergent part of each nozzle is aligned with the outer end of the adjacent inner nozzle, the burner being adapted for gaseous fuel and a reactant gas e.g. air, oxygen, carbon dioxide to be supplied through alternate pipes 3A-3F, and pulverized fuel through outlets 7 and 7X. When pulverized fuel is used all pipes 3A-3F are connected to a reactant gas supply. Gases are supplied to the pipes 3A-3F through tangential tubes 9A-9F. Alternatively the gases may be supplied through axial tubes and baffles provided in the pipes to rotate them. The ends of pipes are flared to continue the divergence of the nozzles. The pipes may be fixed or axially adjustable with respect to each other. Bracing may be provided between the pipes. Outlet 7X may be an annular spray, a ring of spray jets or a succession of fan jets.
