Abstract

1,218,306. Flare stack burner. JOHN ZINK CO. 8 Sept., 1969 [30 Sept., 1968], No. 44348/69. Heading F4T. To provide substantially smoke-free burning of waste gases a flare stack burner comprises a vertical tubular gas-guiding member 15 having an opening 18 at the top, a plurality of pipes 36 each having a vertical portion, the portions being circumferentially spaced within the member 15 and each terminating adjacent the opening 18 with a cover 41 having a central opening 42 of smaller diameter than the pipe 36 and a plurality of circumferentially spaced ports 46 below the cover. A steam/air mixture is introduced into the pipes 36 by means of a steamfilled manifold 38 surrounding the member 15 having nozzles 39 below and spaced from the lower ends of the pipes 36. A conduit 21, 22, 23 has an upper vertical portion 21 centrally positioned within the member 15 terminating near the top thereof, and carrying a base 31 which supports a disc 29 by means of a number of circumferentially spaced lugs 32, the steam/air supply being provided by a steam pipe 24 having a nozzle 26 beneath the end of the lower portion 23 of the conduit. The disc 29 may have apertures 25 so that all the pipes 36 and 21 produce an axial and radial flow of steam/air to provide thorough mixing with the waste gas issuing from the member 15. A second annular conduit 51 supplied with high pressure steam is provided around the top of the member 15 and has a plurality of spaced vertical and inclined nozzles 52, 56 having outlet tubes 53, 57 to direct steam radially inward towards the axis of the member 15.
