Abstract

1426333 Flare burners BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 14 May 1973 [1 June 1972] 25701/72 Heading F4T A burner element for flaring off combustible gases has a fuel chamber 7 through which pass tubes 8 having diffuser cones 11 at their exit ends, the interior of chamber 7 being connected to the bores of tubes 8 only by means of a respective Coanda nozzle 12 for each tube 8 so that, in use, the fuel passes from the chamber 7 to the tubes 8 via the nozzles 12 thus entraining surrounding air into the fuel flow, the fuel/air mixture then passing through the diffusers 11 to a combustion zone. A flare tip may comprise three such elements, each element having six triangular modules arranged to form a hexagon, and each module having forty-five tubes 8. Each hexagonal burner element may have a peripheral fuel manifold and be surrounded by a wind shield.
