Abstract

1,216,797. Seals. E. J. BROOKS CO. 4 Aug., 1969, No. 39014/69. Heading B6P. A seal comprises a unitary plastics moulding, and includes a housing 12 having an opening 28 adapted to receive a locking member 16 connected to the housing by a shackle 10, the housing including locking fingers 34, Fig. 2, adapted to be urged apart on insertion of the locking member 16 into the opening 28 and to close on sufficient penetration of the locking member to prevent withdrawal thereof, the locking member further including a stop member 20 adapted to engage the housing around the opening 28 when the locking member 16 is in engaged position. As shown, the locking member 16 is in the form of a conical wedge and engages three symmetrically placed fingers 34 in the housing 12. In a modification (Figs. 5-8), the locking member includes a flat wedge coacting with four fingers within the housing, in opposed pairs. An aperture 36 is formed in the shackle 10 to weaken the shackle. A widened portion 22 on the locking member 16 prevents lateral looseness of the locking portion when engaged with the housing 12.
