Abstract

1,216,362. Cutting and folding paper. CHANDLER & PRICE CO. 19 Jan., 1968 [23 Aug., 1967], No. 3071/68. Heading B8R. A cut and folded web is transferred from a drum 1 to a drum 3 with or without a further fold according to the setting of cam means controlling the operation of picker pins on the drums 1 and 3. A paper web P is folded longitudinally between rollers 35 and 36 and then transferred by serrated feed rollers 24 and 28 to a main drum 1. The web is carried past cutting cylinder 2 by picker pins 53 which engage the leading edge. The picker pins are controlled by a movable cam 63 co-operating with follower 61 such that they may be retracted either as the leading edge of the web is transferred to pins 84 on drum 3 without further folding or when the web is transferred to drum 3 by a transverse fold, brought about by blades 37 co-operating with jaws 77. When it is required that the web be transferred to drum 3 without a transverse fold the blades 37 are rendered inoperative and picker pin retracting cam 63 is in the full line position shown and when it is required that the web be transferred to drum 3 by a transverse fold blades 37 are rendered operative and cam 63 is brought to the dotted position (at 90 degrees to the full line position). Cam 95 is movable to effect operation of pins 84 when required (i.e. when there is no fold).
