Abstract

1299332 Cutting and folding webs MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 13 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 1749/71 Heading B8R A folding and cutting apparatus for a web delivered from a rotary printing machine comprises a triangular longitudinal folder 1 for folding the web in two, a second triangular longitudinal folder 2 at right-angles to the first for folding the web in four, a cutting cylinder 4 having serrated cutters 11, for cutting the web into 8-page sections, co-operating with serration receivers 6 in a cylinder 5 also carrying needles 7 for carrying the section past a second cutting cylinder 10 and to a gripping cylinder 16, whereupon the section is cut into two 8-page sub-sections by serrated cutters 11<SP>1</SP> on the cylinder 10 co-operating with serration receivers 9 in the cylinder 5, the trailing sub-sections being transferred by needles 7<SP>1</SP> on the cylinder 10 to conveyers 18 and the leading sub-section being transferred by needles 7<SP>11</SP> and grippers 17 on the cylinder 16 to conveyers 19. In order to produce 16-page sections, the cylinder 10 is moved away from the cylinder 6 by an air-piston rod 15, the housing 21 supporting the cylinders 6, 10, 16 is pivoted through an angle of 90 degrees about a shaft 22, and the web is passed directly from the folder 1 to the cylinders 4, 6, and thence to the cylinder 16, where it is folded transversely by blades 8 co-operating with the grippers 17, and conveyers 19, where it is transversely folded by a folder 20.
