Abstract

1514883 Forming signatures STRACHAN & HENSHAW LTD 24 Jan 1977 [2 Feb 1976] 03986/76 Heading B8R A plurality of printed webs, slit from a wide web by cutting cylinders (5), Fig. 1 (not shown), are superposed at 9 and a longitudinal centre line pre-fold is imposed at 12. Opposed creasing blades 33 and anvils 34 on nip cylinders 30, 31, Fig. 3, form the page length pre-folds in opposite senses along the webs. Transverse perforations may be applied before the webs are transversely cut at 14. Transverse folds are applied by cylinders 16, 19, e.g. along the transverse perforations, and then batches of two signatures, so formed, are collected in each gripper 21 of cylinder 20. Two such batches are collected together in each gripper 23 of cylinder 22 and transferred to a saddle conveyor 24. Plough rolls 27 or pushers bend the signature batches about their pre-fold lines so that they drape over the conveyer.
