Abstract

1,032,048. Folding paper. DRUCKMASCHINENWERKE LEIPZIG VEB. March 20, 1963, No. 11112/63. Heading B6H. In apparatus for folding paper transversely and longitudinally a paper web B, Fig. 1, is longitudinally folded by one or more funnels (not illustrated), is cut into sheets by a cutting cylinder 1 and transversely folded by rotary folder 3 and 8. The transversely folded sheets B 2 are passed from the rotary folder to a rotating prism 9 forming part of the longitudinal folder. The three working surfaces 10 have longitudinal folding blades 11 which cooperate with respective penetrating folding knives 16 mounted on a planetary gear mechanism as shown, which maintains each folding knife 16 in parallel co-operation with its respective pair of folding blades 11 as the prism rotates. The resulting sheets B 3 are picked up by pins 20 forming part of a further rotary folder which again folds the sheets transversely. The final folded sheets are stacked by an # S " stacker 23. As a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the folding knives 16 may be carried by the prism with the folding blades 11 carried by planetary gear arrangement.
