Abstract

1,216,243. Photographic toning. EASTMAN KODAK CO. March 7, 1968 [March 8, 1967 (2)], No.11014/68. Heading G2C. Photographic toning composition comprise (1) liver of sulphur, an alkali metal polysulphide, or an alkali metal or ammonium thiosulphate, (2) an alkali metal compound which form an alkaline solution in water, (3) a thioamide and (4) an alkali metal iodide or, when (1) is a thiosulphate, an alkali metal iodide bromide. The toning composition may be used for developing a silver halide image formed by developing an imagewise exposed silver bromide emulsion to form a negative silver image, bleaching the image to convert the silver to a silver salt which is more soluble than Ag Cl (e.g. using an aqueous alkali metal dichromate/ H 2 SO 4 solution), and removing the silver salt formed (e.g. using an aqueous alkali metal bisulphite/sulphite solution). Specified thioamides are thiourea, acetyl- and alkylthioureas, thioacetamide and thiocetanilide.
