Abstract

1,215,267. Vehicle windows; hinges for windows. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 22 May, 1969, No. 26147/69. Headings E1J and E2F. A side window assembly for a motor vehicle body comprises a pane of glass 2 secured in a rigid frame 1 with one side 3 of the pane free of the frame 1 at least one hinge plate 9, e.g. of stainless steel adhered to the pane adjacent the side 3, the or each hinge plate being notched to receive the pane support and location pin 10 of nylon, &c., a frame member 4 being secured to the side 3, the frame 1 and member 4 being relieved at 5, 6 to allow relative hinging movement therebetween and the items 10 being affixed to a flange of the body as shown in Fig. 6 so that the frame 1 and frame 2 may be pivoted about an axis close to 'the side 3 of the frame. A handle 11 is provided fixed to the pane to lock the window closed and facilitate opening and closing of same. The frame may be curved to conform to the bodywork.
