Abstract

1,197,150. Motor vehicle doors. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 18 June, 1969, No. 30803/69. Heading B7J. A motor vehicle door comprises an outer metal skin 1, an inner metal skin 2 and a pane of glass 3 movable from an extended position (shown in dotted lines) to a retracted position (shown in full lines), concealed within the door, in which retracted position the two skins 1 and 2 are on the same side of the pane of glass 3. On the other side of the pane of glass 3 is a trim panel 6 which, with the door in use, is inside the vehicle. The inner skin 2 is swaged to reinforce it and may have an integral edge member of substantially U-shaped cross-section, Fig. 4 (not shown), which serves as a mounting for both the trim panel 6 and the pane of glass 3 in its retracted position, alternatively the edge member may comprise a separate piece of metal welded to the inner skin 2 and/or the outer skin 1. As illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown), mounting members (9, 10) on which a door handle, window regulator and door pull are fixed, are fitted to the edge member, the mounting members (9, 10) being on the opposite side of the pane of glass 3 to the skins 1, 2 when the glass 3 is in its retracted position.
