Abstract

1,214,940. Coated sheet materials. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 24 July, 1968 [1 Aug., 1967]. No. 35210/68. Addition to 1,113,948. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] Sheet materials are coated with compositions comprising aqueous ethylene/propylene/polyene terpolymer dispersions including as thickener a vegetable material capable of swelling in water, e.g. gum arabic, Iceland moss and α- cellulose. The compositions may be spread on textiles and the resulting coating embossed to provide leather substitutes, or applied by doctor knife as a backing for carpets. Examples describe the coating of (I to VII) textile base sheets and (VIII-XI) carpets with various compositions comprising latices of one or more terpolymers of ethylene, propylene and dicyclopentadiene or 1, 4-hexadiene, α-cellulose, Iceland moss, gum arabic, chalk, kaolin, zinc oxide, carbon black, lithopone, organic pigments, ammoniacal casein, sodium naphthalene sulphonate/formaldehyde condensates, sulphur and vulcanisation accelerators.
