Abstract

1,270,848. Coated products. NAIRN-WILLIAMSON Ltd. 30 July, 1970 [5 Aug., 1969], No. 39213/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Division B5] A leather substitute is made by impregnating a woven fabric raised on at least one surface with a polymeric material and coating the raised surface, or one or both of the raised surfaces, with the same or a different polymeric material. Coating is effected by direct spreading or by a transfer process using a release paper and the coating composition comprises a vinyl chloride polymer or copolymer, or polyurethane precursors. The fabric is of cotton fibres or such fibres blended with viscose rayon, polyester or polyamide and the impregnant is a PVC, polyurethane, acrylic polymer or nitrile rubber composition. The impregnated fabric may be heated, flattened between rollers and buffed on both sides prior to coating. After gelling or curing, the coated fabric may be embossed or lacquered with a polyurethane, polyamide, polyacrylate or cellulose acetate butyrate lacquer.
