A sliding panel frame which is built up around the panel comprises frame 'bars 12, Fig. 1 of stiff but resiliently deformable material, each having an inwardly facing longitudinal groove 33 to receive tightly an edge of the panel, a longitudinal slot 17 symmetrical about the median plane of the groove 33 with an undercut portion 16; a track engaging formation 26 along the outward edge of the bar; and a lateral formation 27 on the external flank wall of the bar for interlocking with and retaining a flexible lateral seal element which seals against the meeting bar of an associated sliding sash in a parallel track. The four frame bars are secured together at their adjacent ends by corner member 13, Fig. 2 and 3, as described in Specification 1,213,972. Small grooves 36 in groove 33 hold sealing or adhesive compound. In the stile bars of the frame grooves 22 interlock and hold sealing strips (23 Fig. 8) the groove 27 of a stile interlocks and holds a finger grip or handle (28 Figs. 7 and 8) and similar strip may be interlocked and held in grooves 22 in the sill and upper cross bars (Figs. 10, 11) for cooperating in female guides, or male guide members cooperate with the slots 17, which are such as to allow vertical movement for mounting the sashes in the upper and lower guides. Each bar has a hollow depression 38 and a chanrferred end portion 37 to enable in the case of two relatively slidable sashes, the seal strip in one meeting bar slide up the chamfer 31 on the other meeting bar and engage the depression 38 on that other meeting bar.
