Abstract

1,225,551. Window sashes, pin and socket hinges. HERELVEST INVESTMENTS Ltd. 2 March, 1968, No. 10241/68. Headings E1J and E2F. A window sash or like frame is formed from uniform section bars each having an assymmetrical H-section, the side walls forming the flanks of the H on one side being flush whilst on the other side the flanks are mutually staggered forming a narrower external groove 13 partially closed by lips 15 and a wider internal groove 12 to receive the pane &c., the side wall 16 which is inset from its counterpart 17 constituting the bottom of an external interlock groove to receive a complementarily shaped interengageable formation such as a sealing strip 19. The narrower groove 13 accommodates one limb of a corner bracket 23 to join adjacent sides of the frame together and is held in the bars by screws 28 passing through bores 29 and to nuts 30 in the groove 13 to bear against the web 11 and clamp the limb in the groove. The corner bracket 23 may carry a lug 26 with an aperture 27 to form one component of a hinge, the other component or pin 36 being fixed to the surround of the window. An intermediate component such as 37 having a lug 26 may function as part of a latch fastener 38. When the sash is mounted the strip 19 seals with the surrounding frame. In the case of a sliding sash with finger grip (43 Figs. 5, 6) upper and lower channel guide tracks 60, 61, 62, 63 Fig. 11, the upper ones being deeper than the lower ones, for sash insertion, are secured to the surround by clamps (Fig. 11) or by packing plates 67a of variable or adjustable thickness or adjustable in height in the channel base 65, (Fig. 16). The pivotable window may be held in adjustable open position by a shock (46 Fig. 7) pivoting one end of stay 44, and slidable in the lower rail narrower channel 13.
