Abstract
1,213,583. Combing machines. NITTO SHOJI K.K. 3 Jan., 1968, No 522/68. Heading DIN. In combing fibres two rotatable nipper mechanisms each with a pair of similar grips 13, 15 and 26, 27 are provided with means to rotate them in synchronism so that a first tuft of fibres is held in a grip and is combed at its free end by a combing drum; then its free end is gripped in a grip of the other nipper mechanism and its other end released and combed by the combing drum 1, then the tuft is released. A second tuft is gripped in the other grip of the first nipper mechanism as the first tuft is released and is similarly combed, transferred to the other nipper mechanism and released. As shown, the nipper mechanisms each consist of two similarly shaped plates 6a, 6b (Fig. 6) with co-operable jaws 13, 18 and 13', 18' at each end. As the plates rotate about shaft 12 a pin 43 on a guide lever 40 which is secured to the shaft 12 passes through slots 17 in the plates and engages a grooved cam 45. This causes the jaws 13, 18 to engage during half of the rotation and the other jaws 13', 18' during the other half of the rotation. Both nipper mechanisms rotate at the same speed, together and intenmittently through four positions. When in a first position (Fig. 3) jaws 13, 15 are open to receive the end of a lap 50 fed from rollers 5, 5'. The grip is closed and a tuft is separated from the lap as the nipper device turns into a second position (Fig. 2) Where the tuft is combed by rotating comb 1. The nipper device then moves into a third position 3 (Fig. 1) where the tuft is transferred into the grip 26', 27 of the second nipper mechanism while the first nipper device is receiving another tuft from lap 50. The nipper mechanisms then rotate such that both tufts are combed by comb 1, before tuft 50' is pieced on to the combed fleece 53 at the fourth position (Fig. 3) while the second tuft is transferred to the second nipper device and another tuft received by the first nipper device.
