Abstract

1,212,778. Spray producers. DIAMOND INTERNATIONAL CORP. 5 Nov., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967], No. 52375/68. Heading B2F. Aerosol dispensers comprise a product container 10, a product dispensing unit extending through an opening formed in a wall 12 in said container and having a cylindrical exterior valving portion 64 within the container, a flexible annular diaphragm 80 within the container 10 encircling the valving portion at a level above the product in the container, the outer periphery of the diaphragm being secured in fluid tight manner to the product container, means 86 for admitting air from the atmosphere into the container above the diaphragm, the lower side of the diaphragm being exposed to the pressure within the container, the inner periphery of the diaphragm being disposed for axial displacement along the valving portion responsive to variations in the pressure differential on opposite sides thereof, the diaphragm and valving portion having fluid tight engagement with each other in the position assumed by the diaphragm when the pressures on opposite sides are equal, said diaphragm and valving portion being mutually conforming to permit flow of air into the container when atmospheric pressure exceeds that below the diaphragm in the container. A port 84 may be provided in the neck 22 of the propellant reservoir whereby when the pressure in the container exceeds that outside, bleeding may occur via the port 84 and the space between the valving portion 64 and the neck 22 of the propellant reservoir. The valving portion may comprise a propellant path obturated by flexible valve member 36 and a product path 64, 67, 68 obturated by flexible valve member 70.
