[Also in Group XXIX] A dispensing valve for an aerosol container comprises a valve body 9 adapted to be secured to a container by means of an inverted cuplike spigot 8 and having a flow passage 14 therethrough, the inner end of which constitutes an inlet in communication with the interior of the container, the inner end of the valve body 9 being adapted for connection of a dip tube, a cup-shaped valve member 13 housed in the flow passage 14 and having a rim portion spring urged into engagement with a sealing gasket 12, located at the outlet end of the through passage 14, the valve member 13 being spaced from the wall of the passage 14 to form therewith a flow passage sealed at its outer end by the engagement of the valve member with the sealing gasket and a dispensing button 18 having a dispensing aperture 19 in communication with a hollow stem 17 and insertable through the gasket 12 to make sealing engagement therewith and engageable with the valve member 13 such that on depression of the button the valve member 13 is caused to move away from the gasket 12 permitting the discharge of material from the container past the valve member and through the stem 17 and dispensing aperture 19. In order to permit the discharge material to pass from the interior of the cup-shaped valve member into the stem 17, the valve member is provided with a spigot 24 provided with grooves 22. Alternatively, grooves may be formed in the bottom of the valve cup. In another embodiment the grooves are formed in the inner end of the stem 17 instead of being formed in the cup member. In a further embodiment an aperture may be provided in the wall of the hollow stem adjacent its lower end in order to permit the passage of discharge material. For purposes of storage and transit the button and stem can be withdrawn from the valve and a tamper proof disc applied to the opening in the spigot and gasket. The button and stem can also be withdrawn to facilitate pressure filling of the container and servicing of the button and stem.
