Abstract

1,209,497. Built-up roofing. PITTSBURGH CORNING CORP. 22 Feb., 1968 [27 Nov., 1967], No. 8631/68. Divided out of 1,209,496. Heading E1W. In a built-up roof, the upper surface of the waterproof layer 18 has adhered thereto insulating material 24 in the form of discrete, porous, water impervious elements 20 bonded to each other with interstitial voids therebetween through which liquid may flow. The elements 20 may be multicellular (closed cell) ceramic or glass nodules each encapsuilated in liquified bitumen material 22 which bond the elements to each other, the proportion of bitumen material being such that the interstitial voids 26 remain between the bonded elements. The specification discloses specific compositions suitable for the insulating material 24.
