1,208,689. Folding frames; racks; clothes airers. MODERN METHODS & MATERIALS Ltd. 21 May, 1969 [22 May, 1968], No. 24381/68. Headings A4H and A4U. [Also in Division E2] A collapsible framework which forms wholly or partially a collapsible article such as a storage rack, chair, table, clothes airer, or vegetable rack, comprises pairs of frames pivoted together in "lazy tongs" manner, each pair of frames comprising a first frame 1 formed of transverse members 3, 4 and side members 2 and a second frame 6 formed of transverse members 8 and side members 7, the two frames being pivotally interconnected by a common plain or toothed sleeve 16 between a spigot 5 formed on each end of the central transverse member 4 of the first frame 1 and a spigot 9 for projecting inwardly from each side member 7 of the second frame 6. The sleeve may be of plastics; it may directly engage over the spigots 5, 9 (Fig. 2) or it may engage over end plastics sleeves 10, 13, Fig. 3) with blind bores located on the spigots 9, 5. One end of the sleeve may have internal teeth to fixedly grip the spigot. The pairs of frames are pivotally interconnected by sleeves between spigots 17, 18 formed on the ends of the transverse members 3 of the first frame 1 and the side members 7 of the second frame 6. The frames are assembled by springing apart the outside members. The framework may be locked in its erected position by a pivoted bar 19. The frames comprise plastics coated wires welded together. The frame-work may include support plates, which may be perforated.
