1 Claim.
The present invention relates to window platforms, and has for its main object the provision of a platform engageable to the window sill, and which may be disposed outwardly of the window for providing a support upon which a person may either sit or stand while Washing window panes.
A still further object of the present invention is the provisionin a window platform of the character indicated of adjustable means whereby the platform may be afiixed to sills of various widths. i
With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several Views;
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the present invention in an operative association with a window sill, the latter shown in a transverse crosssection;
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view thereof; and
Fig. 3 is a top elevational view thereof.
Referring to the present drawing in detail, there is shown therein a Window platform which includes a pair of spaced cylindrical bars IO, the outer, free ends of which are threaded as at II. In an operative association of the window platform with a window said bars IB overlie sill I2, including ledge I3 integrally formed with said sill I2 and projecting inwardly of a dwelling. Said sill and ledge I 3 rest upon dwelling wall I 4. Outwardly said sill I2 and wall I4 define right angled corner I 5.
The opposite ends of said bars I are bent into an upward direction, at an obtuse angle with relation to the body portions of said bars Il), and effect sides 16.
Back I'I is formed cut of a U-shaped member, including Vertical members IS, to the upper ends of which the upper ends of sides I6 are connected in a rigiol relation by welding or any other suitable means. Each of said Vertical members I 8 is horizontally bent, towards said bars IO and at right angles with relation to said Vertical members IS, for defining a pair of supporting arms IB for supporting thereon board 20 or any other similar support upon which a person can stand or sit. The front ends of said arms I9 are bent into an upright direction and at right angles with relation to said arms IS, for defining a pair of extensions 2|. Said extensions 2| and the adjacent portions of arms I 9 fit within corner I5 in an operative association of the platform with a window. Said arms IV9 are on a plane below the plane of said' bars I 0. The upper ends of said extensions 2| are rigidly connected, by welding or otherwise, as at 22, to the ends of said bars I 0 and adjacent the lower ends of said sides I6.
Mounted upon bars II] for free shifting movement longitudinally thereof are U-shaped clamping members 23, each of which includes upper tubular portion 24 which is freely slidable upon each bar ll). Angle member 25, by its horizontal portion is superimposed upon the lower free end of each of said clamping members 23 and is welded or otherwise rigidly afiixed to the inner face of each of said clamping members 23, as is clearly seen in Fig. 1. By virtue of this arrangement angle member 25 rigidly connects a pair of said clamping member 23, and when tubular portions 24 thereof have been inserted upon two bars IO said clamping members 23 and angle member 25 are adapted for bodily shifting movement upon said bars IO.
In the operative association of the window platform with a window the corner defined by extensions 2| and the adjacent body portion of supporting arms IS enters corner IE defined by the adjacent edge of sill I2 and the upper end of wall I4. Clamping members 23 receive ledge |3. When Wing nuts 26 are driven against said clamping members 23 for shifting the same longitudinally of bars IO and towards ledge I3, sill I2 will be clamped in a transverse relation by said clamping members 23 and extensions 2 I, thereby rigidly looking the window platform to sill |2. This prevents any shifting movement of the platform either transversely or longitudinally with relation to sill I2. In this operative position of the window platform with relation to sill l 2 the lower portions of clamping member 23 and angle member 25 will be disposed below ledge I 3, thereby preventing any angular movement of bars IO or of the window platform with relation to sill I2, thereby permitting supporting of the weight of a person while standing or sitting upon board 20.
By virtue of the fact that clamping members 23 are freely slidable upon bars III the window platform may be attached to windows having sills of various widths for clamping the latter between said clamping members 23 and extensions 2 I.
Due to the fact that angle member 25 remains in contact with the underface of ledge 13 through its entire length the load of the platform is distributed lengthwise of sill |2. Due to the rigid engagement of said angle member 25 with the free lower ends of said clamping members 23, said angle member 25 and said clamping members 23 constitute a unit which shifts in unison upon said bars IO.
While there is described herein preferred embodiments of the present invention, it is never,- theless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as new is:
A platform frame for a window sill having inner and outer edges, said platform comprising an inverted substantially U-shaped member forming a back for said platform, each of the arms of said member` being bent substantially at right angles intermediate their respective ends to form a pair of platform supportingv elements, said supporting elements extencling away from saidarms in the same direction and in a spaced parallel relationship, said. supporting elements being bent at substantially right angles at a point adjacent 25 said braces being rigidly secured, respectively, with one of said arms at a point adjacent said base of said inverted U-shaped member, the apex of each of said braces being rigidly secured, respectively, to the end of its adjacent abutment means, the other arm of said braces being of suficient length to extend transversely across said window sill, and a pair of U-shaped clamps for engagement around said inner edge of said window sill, means slidably securing each clamp, respectively, on said other arms of said braces, and means on each of said other arms of said braces engaging against the base of said U-shaped clamps and coacting therewith to clamp said frame in operative position to said sill between said abutment means and said U-shaped clamps.
