Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be 1t known that we, EDWARD BELLEMARE and ELZEAR BELLEMARE, residing at Reeds Ferry, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have; invented a new and Improved Mirror-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention is in the nature of an improved appliance for supporting and bracing mirrors, pictures, and the like, that are usually supported at the lower edge adjacent the wall and whose upper ends are held in suspension by. wire or other flexible hangers, and our said invention has for its object to provide a means or appliance of the character stated of a simple and inexpensive construction, that can be readily adjusted for mirrors of different heights or widths and which effectively serves its intended purposes.

Our invention consists in the peculiar construction and novel arrangement of parts hereinafter explained, specifically pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

In the practical application of our mir ror supporter the same, after the parts have been properly adjusted to suit the size of the mirror, picture or other article to be braced thereby, is held against the Wall and the back of the mirror, and the said supporter includes upper and lower transverse strap members 12 that have adjustment apertures 1020 hereinafter again referred to.

Each of the U-shaped brackets 9 also carries a clamp bolt 12 in the outer ends of the side portions 91 thereof and upon each of the said bolts or rods 12 is slidably mounted a second U-shaped bracket 13 which fits between the said portions 91 of the bracket 9, the side portions 13 of the members 13 have longitudinal slots 13 for receiving the bolts or rods 12, the latter having winged clamp nuts l41t for clamping the brackets 13.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought the complete construction, operation and manner of use and the advantages of our invention will be readily understood.

After the parts constituting our supporting device have been adjusted vertically and laterally to suit the space of the mirror or picture to be braced, the said mirror or picture is hung from overhead in the usual manner, as shown in Fig. 2, and when thus hung our improved device is placed back of the mirror engaging the wall and the mirror or picture with the lower member 2 that. carries the rest members 77 forced down below the lower edge of the mirror so that the said lower edge. of the mirror may rest and be supported upon the member 7, it being understood that since the upper roller bearings are supported from the mirror hung from the usual over-head hangers the combined brace and supporting device firmly holds the mirror or picture in a proper position and braced against lateral displacement.

What we claim is:

1. A combined brace and support of the character stated comprising parallel upper and lower members, means connecting the said upper and lower members, and a bearing projected outwardly from each end of the upper and lower members, the bearings on the upper members being laterally adjustable.

2. A combination brace and support of the character stated, comprising parallel upper andlower wall engaging members and a connection between said members, said connection comprising extensible sections, and means for rigidly securing such sections to gether in their extended orcontracted position, a picture back contact bearing projected outwardly from the upper member and a picture restbearing member projected outwardly from the lower member, substantially as shown and described.

As a new article, an appliance for brac ing andsupporting the backs of mirrors, pictures, and the like comprising parallel upper and lower strap metal members, a strap metal member that connects at the opposite ends to the upper and lower parallel members centrally thereof, said connecting member being longitudinally adjustable, a bearing projected outwardly from each end of the upper member, a bearing projected outwardly from each end of the lower me1nher, and means for securing said connecting member to rigidly hold said upper and lower parallel members in fixed relation to one anbearing projected outwardly fromeach end of the upper member, anda bearing proj ected outwardly from each end of'the lower member, said upper bearing members being outwardly and laterally ad ustable and means for effecting such adjustment.

5. As a new article, an appllance forbracing and supporting the backs of mirrors, pictures, and the like comprlsmg parallel upper andlower strap metal members, a strap metal member that connects atthe oppositeends to the upper andlower parallel members centrally thereof, said connecting member being longitudinally adjustable, a

bearing projected outwardly fromeaclr end of the upper member, and-a bearing pro jected outwardly from each end "of the lower member, said upper bearing members "being outwardly and laterally adjustable and means for eliecting' such adjustment, the said means comprising'a U-shaped name, a

bolt connection laterally slidable' in the said upper member, a framecarryingthe said bearing, the said' frame being adjustably mounted in the 'U-shaped frame.
