W. KUENZLE & W. POEI-ILMANN. HAT AND OLOTHES RACK.
No. 592,250. v Patented Oct 26, 1897.
ATTORNEY. I
NITED ST TES PATE T FFICE. I
HAT AND CLOTHES RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 592,250, dated October 26, 1897.
Application filed January 29,1897. $eria1No.621, 175. (NoniodeL) To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM KUENZLE and WILLIAM POEHLMANN, citizens of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hat and Clothes Racks, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
Our invention consists of an improvement in hat and clothes racks embodying sectional brackets admitting of the reception or application and removal of the cross-rod which supports the hooks in a convenient and practical manner, provision being made for setting or adjusting the hooks and preventing rotation of the same and of the rod which supports them.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a hat and clothes rack embodying our invention. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of one of the brackets in separated condition and a section of the hook -supporting rod. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of one of the hooks, the adjacent portion of the sup porting-rod, and the tightening or retaining nut therefor. Fig. 4 represents a top or plan view of the rack on a reduced scale, showing how the same is more particularly serviceable.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures. 7
Referring to the drawings, A designates the side brackets of a hat or clothes rack, and B designates the cross-rod thereof, said rod carrying the hooks C, which latter are secured to bosses D, which freely receive said rod,-
being provided with "eyes K for securing the brackets to a Wall or other place of applica tion. the main portions of the brackets by the arms L, in which are vertical openings to' receive the screw M, whereby the separate parts of the brackets may be clamped together or connected as one. screw is removed the brackets are separated, and the lower section may then'be placed and secured in position. The rod Bis now seated on the lower half-socket J and the upper section of the bracket applied in place, its halfsocket closing on the rod B, after which the screw is rotated, whereby the two arms are drawn together and with them the half-sockets, thus retaining the rod B in position. In this manner the rod has been located in a convenient and practical manner, a feature appreciable where such a rod cannot be introduced endwise into the sockets of the brackets, and is likewise a matter of convenience to adjust the lower sections of the brackets and then apply the rod, instead of necessarily holding,'handling, or supporting the entire bracket at one time. The lower end of the section G has an L-shaped or angular portion N,which is incontact with an angular 7 5 portion N of the section H, the base or horizontal portionof said angular portions being the arms L," which receive the clamping-screw M in the openings in the same. It will also be noticed that the rod B is of angular form, and the openings of the bosses D are also angular, the same being true of the inner faces of the half-sockets, whereby neither the rod nor the hooks are liable to rotation. Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- l. A hat and clothes rack consisting of side brackets each composed of two sections, each section having at its inner end means for securing it to a suitable support, and at its outer end an angular portion, both limbs of which contact with the angular portion of the other section, the horizontal limb of each of said angular portions having an angular- 5 shaped opening forming a half-socket to receive a cross-bar, and an opening in rear of said angular opening to receive a clamping- The half-sockets are connected with 50 It will be seen that when'the 5 5 I screw, and a cross-bar held in said angular portions of said sections for closing the halfopenings. socket-s as one on said rod.
2. An angular rod and hooks with angular I v 7 r 1 bosses freely supported on said rod, in comgi X 5 bination with brackets formed in sections, L J
each being provided at one end with an atlVitnesses: caching device and at the other end With a JOHN A. VIEDERSHEIM, half-socket and a screw engaging with proper WM. 0. WIEDERSHEIM.
