Abstract

1,207,842. Spring door closer with check device. J. BROWN. 5 Nov., 1968 [5 Aug., 1967], No. 36055/67. Heading E2M. [Also in Division F2] In a door closer in which the spring seating is connected to the pivot pin 12, to which the operating arm (14, 15) is connected, by a system of links 29, 27, 31 and 26; the seating 33 divides the housing 10 into two fluid-containing compartments, is provided with a non- return valve 36, 37 which is open during compression of the spring 39, and is formed integrally with, or has attached to it, a cylindrical member 34 which receives a spindle 38, the spindle and the cylindrical member having cooperating inter-engaging surfaces (49, Fig. 2) between which fluid can flow when the non- return valve is shut, so that, by rotating the spindle, a variable degree of damping is obtained. The embodiment also provides a "snapshut" facility, as follows. A rod 50 rotatably mounted in the hollow spindle 38 has a groove 51 which can be brought into register with parts in the spindle.
