Abstract

1,205,555. Speed frames. T. M. M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. 4 Dec., 1967 [6 Dec., 1966], No. 54577/66. Heading DID. In a speed frame the speed of the flyers and the front drafting rollers is reduced during the build to ensure that the surface speed of the bobbin and thus the tension in the roving caused by centrifugal force is kept to an acceptable level; the speed of the bobbin is reduced relative to that of the flyer to maintain correct winding on in the normal way. As shown, a constant speed motor 11 drives, through a variable speed gear 10, front drafting rollers 18, and flyers 24. The ratio of the variable speed gear is changed during the build by a link 12, 34, 33 associated with the belt shifter 33 of the builder mechanism. It can thus be arranged that the surface speed of the bobbin is maintained at a maximum throughout the build. The bobbins 47 are driven to maintain a fixed relation with the speed of the flyers in the normal way, their drive being compounded in a differential gear by the drive on shaft 13 and the drive on shaft 30; the output shaft of the usual charge speed device 27, 28, 29.
