Abstract

1,204,346. Steam generators; tubular heat exchange elements; tube supports. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 23 Oct., 1967 [11 Nov., 1966], No. 48037/67. Headings F4A and F4S. A heat exchanger comprises a number of tubulous members 3a, 3b, 3c &c. assembled between a core 1 and a casing 2 and being slightly conical. Each member 3a for example comprises three helically coiled parallel tubes whose starting points are offset at 120 degrees around the periphery, the same tube in member 3a has been marked with a cross in the Figure. All tubes are of the same length and an even temperature of the medium flowing through the tubes and of the medium flowing round the tubes is obtained. Members 3d-3f are formed of four helically coiled parallel tubes and members 3g-3i of five tubes. The axial distance between the turns of members 3b, 3c, for example, is greater than the corresponding distance in member 3a. Rods 4 have hooks 5 supporting each tube, the rods being welded to arms 6, 7. These arms are hollow and may act as inlets and distributers for the medium flowing through the tubes. The tubes of successive members are coiled alternately to the right and to the left to cancel out twisting forces. These heat exchangers may be used as steam generation heat exchangers of pressure fired steam generators or in nuclear power plants.
